Objectification Theory
Research
Limitations
What fundamental constraints can be identified in psychological research affecting the sound analysis of objectification?
The literature needs to distinguish between conscious and subconscious objectification.
Subconscious objectification is normal (it is not dependent on OAC).
Nocturnal emission
The following longitudinal data on nocturnal emission can be correlated with subconscious objectification. Nocturnal emission is strongly affected by sexual abuse/activity (in that it can be eliminated by the conscious acceptance of a subconscious reaction to stimuli). It is more generally only weakly affected by the environment (it may be enhanced by the conscious rejection of a subconscious reaction to stimuli), and a regular process. Approximate 30 day periodicity is evident in this sample.
